work-floor experience

The end of last week and the beginning of this week were by far the most interesting days I have spent at the TEF (Technology Functions) department. I had the opportunity to be on the work floor in order to test a tool delivered from a new supplier. This supplier offers an interesting price for its tools but we need to test the quality of the product before we can evaluate the offer.
The trial made at the first production line gave a poor outcome which was surprising and unexpected. At this point, I had the chance to use my initiative to suggest making further trials, this time using other production lines, keeping in mind that each line performs differently even though they are identical. The second trial was done and the results have come out to be very good: The tool is enabling a stable production within the control limits. More trials will be done in order to draw definite conclusions about this new supplier…
Another trial that I assisted was changing different parameters of the machine settings in order to find out if there is any potential to reduce the cycle time of the process. This is a great experience in order to see how a machine is set and see how each change made in machine parameter affects the outcome.
Starting next week I will be working with another engineer that is responsible for the development of a different type of process (Grinding Process). I am looking forward to it!
