End of second rotation

Having worked in the technology functions department for almost 2 months, it is now almost the end of my second rotation. Last days spent in the department tend to be a little bit more stressful than the regular ones: Unfinished projects need to be closed and I personally like to prepare a small report in order to have some kind of documentation about my experiences. During the last 2 weeks, I have spent several hours on different machines, sometimes simply to learn the process and sometimes in order to make trials to identify further process improvements. Spending time with the machine workers, watching the machine set-up and measuring piece dimensions might sound like a basic type of work that an engineer shouldn’t have to deal with. But I came to know that the hands-on experience and the conversations with machine workers gives you to opportunity to obtain information that one cannot get by reading books or by hearing from others. As my mentor has mentioned at many occasions, I will have all the time to learn how to use programs or doing office work throughout my career, but being on the work floor and having hands-on experience is something that I should experience as much as possible during my trainee program.
