Advantages of being a Trainee

Twice a year, each Bosch employee has a meeting with his/her boss called MAG (Mitarbeitergespräch). During this meeting, the previous MAG is analysed and the boss gives feedback about the employee’s performance, goals achieved as well as areas of improvement. On the other hand, the employee gets the opportunity to give feedback to the boss and depending on these exchanges new goals are set for the upcoming year. Trainee’s are required to do this meeting at the end of each station which enables BOSCH to get some feedback about how the trainee is performing at the workplace.
2 Weeks ago, my boss made these MAG meetings with his employees, and even though it is not the end of my station, he decided to do one with me as well. I am currently responsible for 2 projects which are at different stages. As it is with most projects, the workload tends to be highly variable. Consequently, I have realized that there are times at which I could cope with more work. During this meeting, I proposed my boss, who was also a trainee in the past, if I could work as his assistant. I believe that this is a perfect opportunity to be directly exposed to the daily work and responsibilities of a manager. The proposal was accepted and since then, I have started to work with him more closely and have already assisted him in creating a structured tool in order to make an employee evaluation directly correlated with the department and plant strategy.
In my opinion, being able to work closely with managers, having the flexibility to easily get integrated in different assignments are some of the great advantages of being a trainee at BOSCH.
