Silence before the storm

It has been now almost one complete year since I work at the Bamberg plant and I find it interesting to see the different phases which the plant goes through. The year 2007 has been considered as a successful year and for this reason investments and expectations for the year 2008 has respectively gone up. Regarding the manufacturing side, new machines were ordered for new projects including two machines for which I am currently responsible. There is currently a fairly calm atmosphere after the Christmas and New Year holidays but as the production deadlines for the new machines approach, I am feeling a small increase in the tension each and every day. The holiday and New Year mood slowly disappears… Soon, the machines will arrive and then the “storm” will slowly begin. My experience until now has thought me that one should expect all kinds of problems in order to reach the product requirements (tolerances, production stability, quality etc.) hence a few weeks if not months after the arrival of the machine should be planned before the mass production stage can be achieved. For me, this is when the fun begins as I am the person responsible for coordinating the communication between the departments before and after the machine receival as well as to make sure that we will be able to achieve our planned mass production deadlines.
