Workshop and Project Presentation

These past few days were fairly challenging and at the same time interesting… One of the tasks I have as a project manager is to conduct workshops. After a few days of preparation, I organized a workshop for 3 machine setters and 2 production planers. The goal was to give detailed information about status of the new machine that is already in the process of being built, as well as to identify the weak points of the current machine in order to find points of improvement for the new one. The half-day workshop was in an informal but structured format which came out to be successful. The output is a long list of constructive points and recommendations, which I will discuss with the responsible people in the next project actualisation meeting that will take place next week.
The next interesting event was yesterday. I presented my project (same project as above) but this time to a completely different type of audience: the area manager, the department chief, the section leader, the boss of machine workers and a production planner. In addition to the audience level the fact that it was my first official presentation in German made things a little more challenging. To make a long story short: the presentation went smoothly until the last few minutes. The room became silent and I started to sweat when the area manager asked a few questions and at the same time criticized some crucial sections about the organization of the project.
Even though I was disappointed to get a fairly negative feedback at the end of my presentation , I calmly thought over the points that the big boss mentioned, understood clearly his point of view and concluded that the best way to interpret the feedback is to get back to work and use his valuable feedback as a guideline. This is the best way one can continue going forward and improve… isn’t it?
