Farewell

Lei • 10.März, 2009 @ 10:18 • Abgelegt unter: Allgemein

To make it an official farewell, I would like to give you a short overview of what I did in the last few months after my rotation in China in reverse chronological order:

  1. I am now sitting in Kusterdingen, a location of Bosch near Reutlingen, in a department for ECU mechanical design and project management.  Since last November, I have officially graduated from the trainee program and started as a technical key account manager for a customer in Stuttgart.  The job offers me a broad overview of the different departments involved in ECU development and challenging customer contacts.  Due to the unique business model of the business unit I am contracted to work for, I also learn a lot about how to find my own way when the standard process does not apply.  For that, of course, I first need to learn how the standard process works, which is in itself interesting as it is the key competence of Bosch.
  2. Before Kusterdingen, I gave birth to my baby girl and spent a couple months at home with her and my husband at home.  In Germany, people say that there’s never a good time to have a baby, if you want a career.  As it turned out, there’s never a bad time either.  Even if it means at the end of the trainee program, I needed to go to interviews for my permanent position with a big belly.  In fact, I enjoyed the time at home being full time mommy, and also enjoy working fulltime as a project manager; even though it involves the extra two runs a day to the company health clinic to pump breast milk.
  3. Before the big project of bringing my daughter to the world, I worked in marketing for the fuel cell project.  It was very interesting to see where the future technology leads us to and how the different aspects of society, e.g. politics, economy and consumer habits, affect the outcome.  To say that politics plays no rule in future technology development is an understatement – just look at hybrid cars.

Trainee program provides a great platform for me to learn and to develop myself.  If I had a choice, I would do it again.

From now on, my successor Constantino Schillebeeckx will bring you more exciting news about trainee life at Bosch.
